The Knopp 4E2-1 Third Rail Voltage Detector is engineered to safely detect electrical potential between the third rail and ground on high-voltage electrified transit systems. The detector utilizes two independent circuits with redundant high-visibility LED lights to clearly indicate the presence of voltage, providing double safety protection for the operator.

The bright LED indicators are designed to be clearly visible in all lighting conditions, including low-light environments and direct, bright sunlight, ensuring unmistakable visual confirmation whenever voltage is present. For enhanced situational awareness and additional safety, the 4E2-1 also features a built-in audible alarm that activates when voltage is detected, providing both visual and audible alerts.

The prod handle and tester housing are constructed from moisture- and oil-resistant laminated phenolic for long-term durability in demanding field environments. Fully enclosed internal electronics protect critical components from dirt, debris, and moisture, helping maintain consistent performance and extending service life. Stainless steel prod tips ensure reliable electrical contact, while an integrated rubber hand guard promotes proper hand placement and operator safety. No metal parts are exposed except for the two prod tips, and all internal connections are soldered for long-term reliability.
